Installs failing

Running AI 23.2 and getting a user reported installation failure issue, specifically

"We are having no end of problems with the latest installation file for SCC.

We used to run the "update" file via Group Policy on the network and it would update all fine.
Then we started having problems with the "update" file, so moved over to rolling out the "full" installation via Group Policy - this worked for most users (there were still a few issues), but meant that boot up time was getting longer and longer due to the difference in file sizes compared to the "update" version.

With this latest one, it is failing for every single user - this means that I am then having to manually install it on every PC, and we have well over 50 PCs with SCC installed!!
Even when running the v16.0.8 msi file manually, it gets stuck with a pop-up window that intimates that it is an unrecognised command line argument (we can just go past this, but this may be why the automated installation is failing).
We even have a few PCs (so far) that will not run v16.0.8 at all. It appears that the installation file removes way too much stuff from the previous install that is then not getting installed back on with this installation file."

I also notice that new custom actions are not running and have an EX rather than UI sequence, and that rebuilding an old AIP file is leading to about 1gb being added to the MSI. Not sure if these items are related.

Planning on rolling back to a version where these problems didn't occur, thinking 21.0 unless there are very good reasons not to.

Re: Installs failing

Hello and welcome to our forums,

I am sorry to hear you are encountering problems after the upgrade.

If I understand correctly, this started happening when you updated your Advanced Installer version from 21.0 to our latest version, 23.2/23.3?
Even when running the v16.0.8 msi file manually, it gets stuck with a pop-up window that intimates that it is an unrecognised command line argument (we can just go past this, but this may be why the automated installation is failing).
This one is most likely related to a prerequisite. After the popup appears, does the main installation fail (during a full UI installation)? If it continues, then this might be related to a recent issue that we had, where a flag was ignored during silent installations. This was just fixed in version 23.3 of Advanced Installer, which we released a few days ago.

That being said, could you please try to test the latest version and let me know if it helps?

Anyway, the fact that the wrong command line issue appeared is still of concern here.

Are you able to reproduce the issue on a first time installation as well, correct?

If so, could you please share with me, via email at support at advancedinstaller dot com, the following resources:

- a copy of the AIP file

- a download link for the setup

- a copy of the installation log

so I can run some tests on my end and further investigate this?

Best regards,
