"More protection for service account password" Enhancement in v14.5

Hello,

I just upgraded my Advanced Installer version from 14.2 to 15.6. I noticed after opening, modifying, and re-saving my AIP that a change has been made to the Service Account Password. Where I previously had the field bound up to the variable "[SERVICEPASSWORD]", it now shows up as black circles (hidden password characters) in the Advanced Installer UI, and it shows up as a series of numbers in the AIP itself.

We have to allow a user to supply the Service Account password as an installer parameter though the command line, but it seems as though that may not be possible now.

I noticed in the changelog for v14.5 that the enhancement called "More protection for service account password" was added, but I'm not sure if there is a way for a user to supply a service account password via command line now.

What does the enhancement do, and is there anyway to bind the Service Account Password field up to a variable?

Thank you.

Re: "More protection for service account password" Enhancement in v14.5

Hello,

We have added this improvement in order to add an extra layer of security. When having an AIP opened in edit mode, the password is shown as a bullet string and it is saved encrypted in the AIP file (e.g. when you open an AIP file with a text editor)

However, this does not affect what you want to achieve. You can still use a property in that field and it will work as before. The only thing is you should pay attention when you type the property name (in the "Password" field of your project) so you do not misspell it.

Please let me know if there is anything else you require assistance with.

All the best,
Catalin
