Downloadable EXE's or MSI's

Okay, I have created my new product installation. I have it as either a setup.exe or setup.msi. It is digitally signed by a third party signer. Now, I want my end users to be able to download/run the installation. But, with files such as these, there are so many security warnings that users are too afraid to download it, let alone install it. I know I go to other sites and download / install software directly from the site without any warnings. So, I am asking if anyone can advice me on how I can make my installation package download and install without all the security warnings. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Jerry,

There some causes that may trigger security warnings, each of them causing a specific warning.
Security warnings may be triggered by some of your prerequisites, if they are URL based.

SmarScreen Filter from IE may be also responsible for security warnings.Check Downloaded installer "blocked" post.

You may also read the Digital Signatures article, it contains information about the most common prompts
the users see during installations and how you can correctly shape their experience during the installation, so they trust the installers running.

Let us know if this post were helpful to you and, if not, please give more details regarding your package and the warnings you want to skip.

Thank you. I believe the problem is that I use GoDaddy as the digital signer. I just found out that GoDaddy's digital signature is not recognized by Microsoft SmartScreen filter and is only meant for private (intranet) use. Unfortunately, they don't tell you that when you purchase it. I will also check out your posts.

If you had unpleasant experiences by using a certificate file emitted by a certain authority let's not debate any particularity of the certificate authority issuer here. Our forums are for installers only. Thank you for your understanding.
