Issue with shortcut in windows 10

Hi,

I have seen a strange behaviour with regards to shortcuts, when installing an Installer created with AdvancedInstaller on Windows 10 x64 platform.

I have added two shortcuts (in below locations )to same exe using "Files and Folder" view in IDE.
1. Start Menu
2. Start Menu>>Programs>>MyApp

This above adding causes three shotcuts (extra C) to appears in Windows 7 OS, even though I added only two. But this is not causing any issues for me in Windows 7.
A) In Start Menu
B) In Start Menu>Programs>MyApp
C) In Start Menu>>Programs

But in Windows 10, I can not see shortcut to exe under "Start Menu>Programs>MyApp". In my analysis It is found that, if I manually delete one from "Start Menu>>Programs", it comes correctly for B. This additional shortcut creation ,as in C, causes issue in Windows 10.

Please share your thoughts on this scenario.

Hi,

I would like to refine my above question after my further analysis.

The issue seems to be with Windows 10, not AdvancedInstaller. Anyway, I am just writing it here, if anybodu have seen this issue before, pls share your thoughts.

On Windows 10, the shortcut to Start Menu>> All apps>>MyProduct is missing ONLY if another shortcut with same name and to same exe is present in the folder "C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\". In Windows 7 there is no such issues.

Hello Prasanth,

As a follow up to your post, I can confirm you that this is the default Windows behavior starting with Windows 8.1 OS. When installing in "ProgramMenuFolder" (i.e. C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs) two shortcuts targeting the same resource (file, folder, etc) only one shortcut will be displayed in Apps screen.
