Update Targets

Hello,

I suspect I am not understanding this feature correctly but could do with some advice on why the following is not working the way I expected.

I have a product at version 5.4.0 but only want it to be available for users with a version of 5.2.1 or higher. I already had an updates project that delivered version 5.2.0 so I added the 5.4.0 update as a replacement for 5.2.0 and set the Update Targets to apply for version >=5.2.1

Now what happens is partially as expected:
1. If they check from 5.2.1 they can see 5.4 *GOOD*
2. If they check from 5.2.0 they cannot see 5.4 *GOOD*
3. If they check from 5.1.0 they can see 5.4 *BAD* - I expected this to not see 5.4.

None of the versions are patches.

Did you apply this setting from the updates configuration project in the "Update Targets" tab?

I'm not sure why this happens. Can you please send us all the .AIP project files( all versions ) and the configuration project to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can investigate your settings and replicate?
As soon as you do, I will forward this test case scenario to our test team and get back to you as soon as we have a conclusive report.

Unfortunately I am not really in a position to send all the files, however instead I made a small test application with a similar set of versions and an associated updater project, with the intention of sending that set of projects to you. BUT that set worked fine with no problems implying it must be something odd in my real project. Anyway as I have a good working example to compare against I should (hopefully) be able to resolve this.

Hello and welcome to Advanced Installer forums,

Thank you for your interest in Advanced Installer.

This is possible to appear if in your older installation projects was included an older updater (e.g. the old projects were built with a version of Advanced Installer (i.e. lower than 8.1) in which the updater did not knew to check for the target version, so it ignores these entries from the updates file). For this feature to work the updater from your old projects must be new enough to recognize the options in the updates files, the old version should be built with at least the first version of Advanced Installer (8.1) in which this feature was included.
