WindowsInstaller 4.5

I have a project that requires at least WindowsInstaller 4.5 however it appears there are lots of variants of 4.5 depending on the target OS. So I was wondering if there is an easy way to handle this or do I need lots of seperate prerequisites for dfferent versions (such as XP 32 Bit, XP 64 Bit, Vista 32 Bit, ... ). Unfortunately the files all need to be included in the project as there will be users without internet access.

If I do need lots of prerequisites what would be the best way to tell which version is needed?

Hi Jonathan,

I am afraid I am aware of no workaround for this short of including all the prerequisites in your installer.
Determining the operating system can be done by checking for one of the values in:

Code: Select all

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

There are some values here that are unique to the operating system version and can be used by the installer to determine the current version of Windows.
