Reboot after installation

Hello,

In the "Install Parameters" section, for the "Reboot Behaviour" field I have selected the "Force Reboot after install". But after I have installed, there is no reboot (prompt). But I get a reboot prompt when I do an uninstall. What is the problem here?

I am not sure as to why you are encountering this behavior. What operating system are you testing this on? Can you replicate this behavior on other machines? If so, then please send your .aip project file (or a stripped down version that accurately reproduces this behavior) to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can further investigate the issue.

I created a stripped down installer with the forced reboot action; that works fine.

What I suspect is, I include other installers in my installer and suppress the REBOOT in them. I am not sure whether they block the the reboot of my installer. The AI team may be able to answer this.

Hi,

The reboot behavior can be affected in many ways during an install. If the problem persists you can send us the .AIP (project) file and a verbose log of the install so we can investigate them.

Hi Srini,

It is very likely to be a bug on AI. I saw the identical problem as you did: reboot with prompt after uninstall but not reboot after install. In my case, I tried all the combination of force reboot, suppress reboot then add force reboot at the exit page. Either case worked as it should. Can you share with me how you do force reboot in your strip down version?

Hi Cosmin,

I have attached a minimal installer that just adds a registry value. I have enabled the Force reboot option. The created installer does not reboot after installation; but it prompts for a reboot during uninstallation. I have also attached the created exe file.

Hi Srini,

Unfortunately the reboot prompt is not shown when using enhanced UI. This is a bug in Advanced Installer and it will be fixed in the 7.4 version. Until then a solution is to disable the enhanced UI.

I dont remember what made me to choose the 'Enhanced UI' - but I needed it. If this is the case, then I have to wait for your next release.

Hi Heiko,

Didn't the reboot work when you set the "Force reboot after install" option from the "Install Parameters" page of your project?

It is indeed a limitation when you have the "Enhanced User Interface" feature enabled in the "Themes" page, "Settings" tab and you try to set the "REBOOT" property to "Force" on the "Install Execution Stage" section, in the "Custom Actions" page. However, it should work if you use that option from the "Install Parameters" page.

A similar problem was discussed on the "Can REBOOT Property Be Set From A Merge Module" thread.

Hello and welcome to our forums,

A "stripped down" installer means an empty project. Basically, open Advanced Installer, create a project and build it without adding any files to it.
