Using [SETUPEXEDIR]

Hello,

I suspect I 'm missing something quite simple however I have the following problem. I have a prerequisite that takes an ini file that I setup on the Edit Prerequisite dialogue as a command line:

/CONFIGURATIONFILE=[SETUPEXEDIR]ConfigurationFile.ini

However [SETUPEXEDIR] is resolving as the complete path to the install exe not the folder. In this case "F:\AssetManager\AssetManager.exe" so I end up with:

/CONFIGURATIONFILE=F:\AssetManager\AssetManager.exe\ConfigurationFile.ini
but wanted
/CONFIGURATIONFILE=F:\AssetManager\ConfigurationFile.ini


Is there a different property I should be using?

Hi,

Please note that [SETUPEXEDIR] property will resolve to the folder in which the EXE resides, not to the full path. So in your case it will resolve to the following path:

Code: Select all

F:\AssetManager\

and not to:

Code: Select all

 F:\AssetManager\AssetManager.exe\

Thanks for the reply. What you said is what I would have expected however it does not appear to be happening as when the prerequisite exe file is run it states cannot find ini file "F:\AssetManager\AssetManager.exeConfigurationFile.ini".

I just tried a run creating a log file and it implies what you said is true which makes the error message even harder to understand. It looks like it is using AI_SETUPEXEPATH instead of SETUPEXEDIR...

Maybe reading too much into the help files however under Windows Installer Properties is the following statement about SETUPEXEDIR, "Location of the EXE bootstrapper (it is resolved when you launch the installation through the EXE bootstrapper)." This possibly implies that it is not resolved until the MSI is launched through the EXE which would be after the prerequisites have completed?
