running scheduled task without a password

hi, i am trying to create a scheduled task that will run on a local computer and will run without the user having a password for their local computer.

i know how to create a scheduled task with AI, it works great. however, a requirement of the windows scheduler is it must be on a computer with a user/password. my search found this

1) http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;223375 (although this info is a little old)

2) http://www.advancedinstaller.com/forums ... asks#p8200
i tried leaving out the user name, but the scheduled task did not work after i installed it.

3) also on your site, i found some code to set a scheduled (the post was about 3 years old, so i assume it was before scheduler was part of your product)

So, am i able to run windows scheduled task (xp and vista) without the user having a user/password for their account?

thanks

Hi,

When creating a scheduled task in AI you can set it for an user account without a password like this:
-- create the new task from the Scheduled Tasks page
-- in the New Task dialog that appears leave the Account tab with the default settings
-- the rest of the tabs can be changed in order to fit with your requirements

This way you will create a scheduled task that will be added to the user that installs the package, even if the user has no password set for his account.

Hi Bogdan,

""-- in the New Task dialog that appears leave the Account tab with the default settings""

i tried that and it did not work. this is the relevant portion of the AI log:

"Task Scheduler Service"
Started at 8/11/2009 6:19:40 PM
"Task Scheduler Service"
Exited at 8/11/2009 6:48:54 PM
"Task Scheduler Service"
Started at 8/11/2009 6:50:23 PM
"wget.job" (wget.bat) 8/11/2009 6:50:23 PM ** ERROR **
The attempt to retrieve account information for the specified task failed; therefore, the task did not run. Either an error occurred, or no account information existed for the task.
The specific error is:
0x8004130f: No account information could be found in the Task Scheduler security database for the task indicated"

__________________________________________________________________________
using another setting, absolutely nothing happened, (no log entry, no change in the "last time run" or anything.

this link, tells me, if i am reading it right, that what i want is not possible
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;223375

i hope that i am missing somehting and we can get task scheduler to work as i need it.

thanks for your time
