"Select Installation Folder" during app install

When I start up my installation, it asks "Select Installation Folder".
It says this is the folder where your program will be installed.
I change the default folder from "c:\program files\xxx" to "c:\xxx".
The install still goes to "c:\program files\xxx" and not "c:\xxx".
This is a problem if the user does not have Administrator privileges,
because he typically does not have the ability to create files under
"c:\Program Files". Am I using Advanced Installer incorrectly?

First, please make sure that you're using AdvInst 1.4 We had a similar bug in the previous versions.

Then it would be great if you could send me aip file (and maybe the msi file) to support at advancedinstaller dot com so I can take a look.

Thanks,

I,too, seem to have this problem with 2.5.1

No matter what the user sets as the isntallation path it always goes to whatever the default setting is. As I see no resolution here I am not sure what to do. Any help appreciated.

Hi Vince,

The issues signaled here are not general. They were solved case by case, usually directly in the AIP file.

Just send yours to support at advanced installer dot com and we'll take a look. Please don't forget to specify the exact issue (which file should be installed where) and the exact steps to reproduce.

Cata

Hi Vince,

The problem with your package is that you are not using the Application Folder and the Application Shortcut Folder to place your files and shortcuts. Instead you put everything directly into their intended location (Pogram Files or Start Menu).

Those files will be installed right there - with no possibility from the user to select a different location.

Instead, the Application Folder and the Application Shortcut Folder serve as placeholders. They are MSI properties which by default resolve to the values from Install Parameters page, but can be changed by the user to a different directory.

Read about the two locations:

Check out the AdvInst Tutorial:
