updater.exe and missing AIU file

If the updater.exe doesn't find any appropriately named .AIU file on the webserver, it seems to throw this error:
-536870888 (&HFFFFFFFFE0000018)
(see attachment).

Is this correct/expected behavior?
Is this trappleable so that if the file is missing the user doesn't see my error message box dialog?

Use the advanced installer Updater to generate an Updater.txt, copy this in your webserver, and ensure the path is correct in your installer.

Hello Kevin,

Beside Frank's suggestions you can also open in a text editor the Updater.ini file and check the URL set as value for the URL ini key. Just try to launch this URL into a web browser of the current machine and make sure the updates configuration file content is displayed into your web browser.

Also, please make sure the updates configuration file you added on your web server was generated by using the Advanced Installer application, i.e. by building an updates configuration project.
