This behavior doesn't happen with the microsoft msix editor, which creates a package that contains a dll that is binary-same to the dll I intended to package.

Thanks for your reply, I'm afraid it actually doesn't really help; I don't want an alias to launch to my application, I want an environment variable that I can use inside my application, like so

My package indeed has fullTrust capability, and in fact we have very similar c# code, but in our case it also sets the ProcessStartInfo to use shell execution, like so

psi.UseShellExecute = true;

Perhaps that is the cause of this ...

I set an env var to a simple string (Using the Environment tab, as explained in the tutorial here- https://www.advancedinstaller.com/msix-environment-variables.html ), and in my app I read that env var - it is still unset.
Also when opening cmd in the app with Hover , the env var is unset.
