A follow-up to this. We tried using a floating licence and got an error that only assigned individual licences are supported. So you have to use an assigned individual licence and cannot use a floating licence.

I reinstalled the floating licence server and at the same time updated it to the latest 14.9 release.
It stopped again yesterday.
The message reported in the event log is
Any ideas?
