Firewalls which filter file content & updater issues

We had this raised by one of our users here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/SRCTREEWIN-1272

Occasionally our IT department decides to download new rulesets so our Barracuda firewall, and it then blocks access to Atlassian servers (as it classes them as download servers).
If the Sourtree client ...

Thanks, I didn't spot that option before, I'll try it out.

Re: Possible to clean up old update installers automatically

OK, thanks. Can I ask for a feature request to be logged for an in-built option to delete previous installers? I imagine it's likely to be a common request for people doing frequent updates.

Possible to clean up old update installers automatically?

Is there a way to ask Advanced Installer or the update process to delete old installers that have been downloaded by the update process? Right now they all hang around forever on the local drive and a few users have asked if we can clean up after ourselves better.

Thanks
Steve

Re: Auto close applications sometimes not working

Thanks! We'll try that for the next update. It's odd that the current set up worked for me but hopefully that's it.

Auto close applications sometimes not working

We use the 'Auto Close Applications' section in the Advanced Installer updater to automatically close a tool which install within our application which might be running in addition to the main application. This has worked in all our tests, but we have a minority of users who say that it persistently ...

Re: How to avoid placing installer files in roaming profile

Ah, excellent thanks, I missed that. I'm just going to change [AppDataFolder] to [CommonAppDataFolder] in this path, so it keeps all the unique bits that are already there.

How to avoid placing installer files in roaming profile

We'd like to avoid putting any of the installer files in the user's roaming profile, as some users have complained that we're clogging up their log off / log in times with installers.

We already changed the installer settings so that "Updater > Downloads updates in this folder" is set to ...

Re: Pinned application icons get invalidated on update

Thanks for the update. Reading the docs on "Install new version first and then uninstall old version", am I reading it right that if you remove a file from an existing component, you always have to create a manual removal action?

I'm also not sure how to read how it updates existing components. If ...

Re: Pinned application icons get invalidated on update

Thanks! FWIW Advanced Installer itself has the same problem (not surprising), I have it pinned to my taskbar :)

Re: Pinned application icons get invalidated on update

Hrm.

Is there a way to tell if an app is already pinned to the task bar before uninstalling on update, and to use that flag to conditionally un-pin that one and re-pin the newly installed version of the app after install?

Re: Pinned application icons get invalidated on update

I don't want to always pin the application after installing, I just don't want to break the pinning a user may have already done. Other app installers / updaters manage this, I think this is something you should support out of the box.

Pinned application icons get invalidated on update

I'm having the following issue with applications installed with Advanced Installer that are pinned to the taskbar in Win7+ and then updated:

Install the application
Start the application, right-click on its taskbar icon and select 'Pin this program to the taskbar'
Close the application, update ...
