Thank you.
That must be it as we have Modify and Repair turned off for the Control Panel part, so only option is to remove it looks like.
My fault then. Just freaked me out.
When did running an installer (created by Advanced Installer 23.3) a 2nd time cause programs to automatically uninstall? No prompt. No dialog box. Nothing. Just uninstalls my program!!! Thankfully discovered this while testing on a virtual machine.
Well I waited a day so I did this:
Reinstalled AdvancedInstaller 20.7.1.
Rebuilt the setup.
Setup now works on Windows 11
Something is wrong with 21.0.1
Setup compiled with 21.0.1 Enterprise We've been using this for years without an issue.
I did an update to my program that I have done for years. It installs on a Windows 10 test machine with no problems. On Windows 11 test machine. Problem. Stuck on the 'Welcome to the Prerequisites Setup Wizard ...
I'm using Advanced Installer 18.5 Enterprise This was all working before and now when I try to install on a clean machine, NONE of the prerequisite files will run. They show in the dialog that they are needed. This is good. They download fine. This is good. They do NOT run. Immediately I get a ...
But this is the verbose log created by AdvancedInstaller. Can't more detail be added to it (for future installers)?
Again, I don't know the workings of MSI files. You might be limited to what you can do. I don't know.
Sigh.
It's just this one user currently so no, I know of no way to recreate. I was hoping the log would contains something like:
* I'm about to do this.......
* Then: Fatal Error -or- Success.
This error I see from time to time and I must say: It is so frustrating that it is not more descriptive. Don't know if an MSI issue or AdvancedInstaller.
For this user this is their log: I would love some direction as to what the fatal error cause is here please. I marked in red the Fatal Error ...
If our program is already installed and if the user runs the setup again, we want it to just reinstall. We do not want the message of: "Program is already installed. If you need to reinstall, you will need to uninstall first". We don't want that.
What can I change in my installer script to just ...
Never mind! Seemed to be an issue with VMWare and computer hardware. (I test all installs inside of VMWare Workstation). Cable to CD drive was loose, so VMWare was having an issue. Turned maching off, tightened all connections, rebooted, started VMWare and the install works fine now.
Version 9.7. Previous install with 9.6 and 9.61 went fine. In fact this is the74th version of this install and the first with 9.7. Always worked in the past, now the install gets stuck at: Status: Preparing backup operation
Very frustrating. What do you need from me to debug this?
