Re: Upgrade/update fails with permission error

Here is what we see after a few more tests:

The upgrade on top of a previous version (different product code) SUCCEEDS when:
- Installing to the C: drive in XP, Vista, and Win 7
- Installing to the E: (removable USB drive) in XP

Upgrade FAILS when installing to the E: drive on Vista and Win 7 even ...

Upgrade/update fails with permission error

Up to and including AI v 8.3, we had been able to perform upgrades of our product successfully using just the stock "install per-machine" or "install for this user" settings (no special permissions on any items in the APPDIR, etc.)

After that, including AI v 8.7, upgrades fail with the following ...

Re: Install on USB drive: various problems

Thank you so much for your help! We have upgraded to Enterprise and gotten the drive selection and folder configuration working correctly.

I've posted a further query about the upgrade/update failure to a new thread.

Install on USB drive: various problems

We are trying to make an installer tailored specifically for installation on USB drives, including updating USB drive instances. I have already found the option to display removable drives in the Dialog options for Enterprise projects. (Thanks to earlier forum postings!)

However, I am having ...

Re: Win 7 per-machine update fails

Thanks for the quick reply. We don't have any custom actions. We do have Flash Player Plugin installed from a URL to Adobe as a Prerequisite. We also are including the MS Visual Studio Redistro package as a local installation side-by-side with the main application executable. For that, we aren't ...

Win 7 per-machine update fails

Using Adv. Inst. 8.3.
Our projects have been upgraded from 8.2.
Our installer is set to be per machine when admin access is available.
We have created an update of our application. The updater helper runs correctly and downloads and starts the installation of the update.
The update installer runs ...

Point to local prerequisite file as URL?

We distribute a version of our software on CD. I want the main installer to point to a prerequisite installer as a file external to the MSI, rather than including it in a bootstrapper.

file:///[SOURCEDIR]QT7\QuickTimeInstaller.exe doesn't work, probably because it's a mixture of a URL path and ...

Per user update problems with 7.6.1 (XP and Win 7)

The 7.6.1 update did fix the per-user installation problems previously reported for the first time installation. Thanks!

Unfortunately there are still some issues when using Updater.exe to update per-user installations:

XP SP3 Per-User
(Installation, updates, and removal function as expected for ...

Re: Signing packages on Win 7

I was finally able to get this working by installing the last available version of CAPICOM in addition to the Win 7 SDK (which didn't include it).

Re: Signing packages on Win 7

I installed all of the platform SDK elements EXCEPT documentation, samples, and compilers. I still get the Capicom.dll file not installed correctly error. I don't want all of those additional things since I don't use them and need the space on my disk.

Signing packages on Win 7

I installed Advanced Installer 7.6 on Windows 7 Ultimate, along with the .NET 3.5 framework tools. (Was previously running on XP).

Re: Install fails on limited account

I have a similar situation that I would be grateful for some guidance about:

Ihave a main application that we install per machine or per user without admin access. I also want to try to install Flash Player if we can (ie have admin access). But I don't want the application install to fail ...
